St Nicholas’ Church was founded in 1101. It was heavily bombed in the Second World War. In the 1950s it was restored and it re-opened in 1961. The church is the largest parish church in the country and is well-known for its famous organ. It is at the heart of the Great Yarmouth community. Amongst those who have worshiped here are Lord Nelson and the surgeons Sir James Paget and Sir Astley Cooper. Over the years the church has received many royal visitors, the church was designated a Minster in December 2012.
